Texas Vs. Cheerleaders

University of Texas Cheerleaders
University of Texas cheerleaders at work, but for how long?

Texas lawmakers are celebrating this week as a law aimed at outlawing sexually provocative cheerleading routines passed the lower house of the state legislature with a convincing majority. The law will require cheerleading routines to be suitably modest, although it is still unclear how the law will be enforced.

Cheerleading has been growing in popularity at British universities in recent years, aided by the creation of American Football teams on several campuses. The sport, contrary to popular belief, is open to both men and women. However, the overwhelming majority of participants in Britain are believed to be female.

The bill will come before the upper house of the Texas legislature, the senate, before becoming law. It is still possible that liberal senators will be able to strike the bill down at this final stage.
