Nice surroundings, if you can get in

Our man at the NUS Students With Disability (SWD) conference in Blackpool reports on its first day.

We're staying at the 463-room Norbreck Castle hotel on Blackpool's seafront. Featuring en suite rooms, 24-hour room service and its own health club with swimming pools and a sauna, it's a step up from most halls of residence.

Registration was troublesome for several students who, despite having their names on the official delegate list, were not allowed to register because they did not have a confirmation letter from their union. Eventually, after phone calls and faxes, the problems were resolved.

The situation wasn't helped by Parcelforce who, for some reason unbeknown to us, decided to take the registration documents to Preston. They arrived several hours late.
