Student media awards shortlist unveiled
The Guardian has unveiled its shortlist for the 2005 Student Media Awards, and Oxford students have scooped the most nominations.

Students working on the four publications entered from the university – the Oxford Student, Cherwell, ISIS and Owl – are up for eight awards between them, with half going to the Oxford Student.
One of those was for the hotly-contested Student Newspaper of the Year category, where it will face stiff competition from the Steele Press from Sheffield, Gair Rhydd from Cardiff and Nouse from York. Arch rivals York Vision, who have won for the last three years, are also in the running again.
It has been a bumper year for journalists at Gair Rhydd, who have won three of the five nominations for Student Reporter of the Year. Paul Dickin, Will Talmage and David Doyle are up against Roger Waits from the Oxford Student and Jessica Salter from the Leeds Student.

In the magazine category, Quench and Smiths are present again from last year's shortlist, with the latter also fighting it out in the design and small budget categories.
Last year's Student Website of the Year, Wessex Scene from Southampton, has been nominated for the third year running. It will be battling against four newcomers to the Guardian shortlist: Pulse FM, the Warwick Boar, The Rundown and Soup Mag.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 2nd November.
