Oxford Student hackers suspended
Two Oxford students have been suspended after they admitted hacking into the university's computer network. Patrick Foster and Roger Waite found that they were easily able to access students' email and MSN Messenger conversations, as well as CCTV pictures of colleges, in May this year. They wrote about their experiences in an investigative piece for the Oxford Student.
The pair, one of whom now edits the newspaper, said that their exposure of "serious failings" in the university systems was in the public interest, but Oxford's Court of Summary Jurisdiction took a dim view. It suspended Foster and Waite until May and January respectively.
Both will now appeal against the punishment.
