Drunken conga leads to trashing of campus
A group of rowdy students from the London School of Economics face being thrown off their courses after they were responsible for causing severe damage to a rival university's campus.
Those joining the annual Athletics' Union Barrel fancy dress party followed the tradition of doing the conga around their own grounds, although a group of revellers moved down the road to nearby King's College where they set off fire hydrants and broke windows.
The LSE and its students' union are deeply embarrassed by the incident, emphasising that they believe only a small minority of students were behind last Friday's events. In a statement, the union said: "The students' union strongly condemns the actions of a splinter group at the Athletics' Union Barrel which resulted in the annual run being diverted to King's College London.
"We have offered our most sincere apologies and promised to cover the cost of repair."
King's College's English Literature department is thought to be the most severely damaged, although the university is still in the process of assessing the exact cost of the damage caused. Those involved will learn their fate once investigations into the event have finished.
