48 students catch mumps at Reading
48 students at Reading University have contracted suspected mumps since January, it has been reported. The university is not currently recommending a mass immunisation campaign, but free MMR jabs are on offer from its medical practice.
Cases of mumps have been on the increase across the UK in recent years, and young people are particularly at risk. The illness can lead to infertility in men.
