£22k starting salary for graduates

The average starting salary for graduates in graduate-level jobs now stands at £21,997, according to new research done by Graduate Prospects. The outfit found that salaries range from £13,242 to £36,000, with around a quarter getting more than the national average of £25,000.

Top average salaries could be found in management consultancy, followed by the oil and mining industries. The highest number of vacancies could also be found in management consultancy, followed by banks and building societies and then civil service and local government.

So a degree can still bring good earning power, so long as you can find yourself a graduate-level job – as we reported earlier this week, it's not necessarily that easy.

The research should also be taken with a pinch of salt. As the Guardian points out, it is based on just over 14 thousand vacancies advertised in the company's directory, when there were nearly half a million graduates last year.
