Oxford student sets up escort agency

A new moneymaking scheme from an Oxford student has further highlighted the lengths that students are willing to go to in order to avoid debt and poverty.

He didn't pay for it, but some people would

Students and graduates of Oxford and Cambridge are offering their services as escorts in order to raise extra funds. Oxbridge-escorts.com is the latest attempt by students not only to meet and socialise with people wanting stimulating conversation, but also to raise yet again the issue of rising student debt.

Nick Dekker, a 22 year old Classics student, set up the website which he hopes will be up and running by mid June. Due to the unprecedented interest in the site since the story came into the media spotlight last week, those interested will have to wait until Mr Dekker completes his finals before they start to explore the various dating options.

The news of the website comes just over a year after Bristol student Rosie Reid sold her virginity for £8,400 on the internet in order to avoid rising debts after her graduation. Although Oxbridge-escorts explicitly states that sex is not on the agenda as part of dates, it nevertheless points out that what happens after a date is the choice of each couple.

Students wishing to take part will have to pay an annual membership of £45 per year while those seeking dates with young intellectuals will face a subscription charge of £99, not taking into account the cost of each individual date which also falls to the client.

Although a clever way of raising the issue of graduate debt, especially in the midst of an election, Oxford's Students' Union has expressed its concerns over the safety of students going off with people they know nothing about.

The site may also bring unwelcome publicity for both Oxford and Cambridge universities as the issue of students' finances is again in the spotlight.
