Students more worried about debt than studies
Students are more worried about their debts than their studies, according to research published today. 59% of students said that money was what troubled them most, twice as many as the 29% who said that their studies were their primary concern.
12% said that having a good lifestyle and social life worried them most, according to the Post Office survey that questioned nearly a thousand students.
Money is also causing tension in shared student houses as arguments occur over splitting the rent and bills. 13% said that this was their biggest problem with the people they live with. 15% admitted to lacking control over spending and not being prepared for bills arriving.
Happily, 44% of parents are on hand to contribute towards rent and bills, but for most students that won't be enough to avoid leaving university with an average £15,000 of debt.
