Swansea lecturer suspended
The University of Swansea has been in turmoil since the arrest of Colwyn Williamson, a philosophy lecturer and AUT activist, on charges of hacking into a colleague's computer. Mr Williamson has been a voracious critic of the current vice-chancellor's re-organisation of the university, which will see the Philosophy department replaced by a more lucrative department of Business Studies.
The vice-chancellor, Richard Davies, has faced accusations of cronyism over his attempts to appoint a close friend to head the new Business Studies department.
Both students and staff have vowed to oppose the reforms to the university's structures. A student has already been disciplined for placing posters depicting the vice-chancellor as a troll around the campus.
At a packed meeting to discuss the accusations against Mr Williamson he strongly denied the charges against him and condemned his suspension from teaching.
