Campaign for Free Education

Last update: 19 Jul 2005 10:26

The Campaign for Free Education (CfE) was originally formed as a left-wing grouping within the NUS as an umbrella body for those opposed to the introduction of both tuition and top-up fees. The organisation was a coalition of a number of different groups, led by the Alliance for Workers' Liberty. Despite winning the fight for NUS policy to reflect their concerns over top-up fees, members of the CfE have continued to complain that the NUS has not actively fought for the cause.

In 2004, Kat Fletcher became the first CfE candidate to win the Presidency of the NUS, although shortly afterwards the group folded and merged into the European anti-fees organisation Education Not for Sale.
